My care tips for your flowers

Mes conseils de soins pour tes fleurs

My care tips when you receive flowers

To keep cut flowers in a vase at home, there are several conditions that influence their lifespan.

Factors such as transportation, temperature, and water are important.

So I'll give you some floristry tips...

For bouquets of cut flowers

Place the flowers in water as soon as you receive them; ideally, they should not be left without water for more than 30 minutes.

Cut the stems at an angle of 1 cm with a sharp knife before putting them back in the water, so that they drink better.

Choose a vase that is appropriate for the size of the bouquet.

The flower stems should be submerged at least up to half their height.

If your vase is too small, shorten the stems a little.

You can add Chrysal (the liquid form is easier to use than the powder, which dissolves poorly) to fresh water, respecting the dosage. This prevents bacterial growth and promotes better water absorption by the flower.

But most importantly, change the water every day. This significantly increases the lifespan of your cut flowers.

Your flowers need to be in a cool place. Never place them too close to a heat source like a radiator, avoid drafts and especially direct sunlight.

Some varieties of flowers require a lot of water. Especially roses, sunflowers, orchids and summer flowers.

On the other hand, tulips like to have little water, but be careful, they drink a lot, so don't forget to refill them every day.

For plants that have latex, such as poinsettia, euphorbia, oxipetalum or poppy, if you want to shorten the length of the stem, you must plunge its base into boiling water to coagulate, otherwise the flower will wilt quickly.

When a rose does not absorb water, cut about 5 cm of the stem at an angle, wrap it in newspaper to keep it straight, then immerse 80% of its length in water at 40°C overnight.

For the plucked arrangements

To keep floral arrangements made in synthetic foam (what florists call an oasis) looking their best, I simply advise you to add fresh water daily to maintain the foam's moisture level at its maximum.

The floral arrangement should be kept in a cool place. Never place it too close to a heat source such as a radiator, avoid drafts and especially direct sunlight.

Here are my tips, and don't forget, flowers don't like to stay in the heat (or very cold) in your car…. When you transport them, think of them as fresh fish :-) .
